DHPE Advances Dr. Karen Manitsas’ Career as Assistant Professor and PA

Karen Manitsas, DHPE (’19), MS was among Logan’s first graduating class in the Doctorate of Health Professions Education (DHPE) degree program. Currently a physician assistant (PA) at Stanford Health Care in Palo Alto, California, Dr. Manitsas also serves as an assistant professor at her alma mater, Samuel Merritt University (SMU), in the PA program. There, she teaches medical ethics and evidence-based practice courses and assists students in preparing for their national board exams. Willie Ocampo, MS (’17) has always known he wanted to help athletes who are physically or intellectually impaired. As the lead adaptive training exercise physiologist for the Disabled Athlete Sports Association (DASA)—a non-profit that provides adaptive sports and fitness to individuals with physical disabilities, visual impairments, and those who are hard of hearing—Willie provides individual training to athletes with physical disabilities. DASA is also recognized by the U.S. Olympic and the Paralympic committees as a U.S. Paralympic sports pipeline. “At DASA, we develop relationships with our athletes, and the atmosphere is very family-oriented,” Willie said. “Having a one-on-one personal experience …

Logan Health Center in St. Louis Now Open

Logan University’s newest Health Center, located in the Stephen A. Orthwein Center at Paraquad, is officially open and accepting patients. Located at 5200 Berthold Ave. in St. Louis, the Health Center is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Wednesday; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. The new, full-service Health Center will allow Logan clinicians and student doctors to expand this patient-centered care for individuals of all ages and abilities in the St. Louis community.
