Logan’s MS-SSR program is taught by a diverse team of multi-disciplinary instructors who bring unique, real-world perspectives to your health science education. Through rigorous courses in anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics and injury rehabilitation, you’ll develop the skills and confidence to help athletes perform at their best.

Graduates of Logan’s MS-SSR program are well-prepared to sit for several prestigious certification exams, including, the NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT), the Certified Special Population Specialist (CSPS), the Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and the Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) from the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (ACBSP).

MS-SSR graduates apply their rehabilitation science training in a variety of health professions, including private practice or clinical settings, on staff for college and professional sports teams, as personal trainers and coaches, as well as opportunities in research and teaching exercise science.

Logan’s MS-SSR’s courses are offered online with three, 15-week trimesters per year. By choosing either a part or full-time course load, you can complete your degree on a schedule that works best for you. Courses are offered 100% online with valuable hands-on experience through an internship that can be completed at a facility close to home.

Admissions Requirements for the MSSSR
COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES: MASTER OF SCIENCE IN SPORTS SCIENCE AND REHABILITATION ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

An applicant must have:

  • Earned a baccalaureate degree or higher that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education
    Accreditation (CHEA).

    • If the baccalaureate degree was earned at an unaccredited institution, an accredited post-baccalaureate degree is an acceptable alternative.
  • Requested that an official transcript to be sent directly to Logan University from the institution awarding the qualifying entrance degree.
    • If the applicant attended multiple institutions, an official transcript must be sent from each institution directly to Logan.
  • Earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in his or her qualifying bachelor’s degree.
    • An applicant with qualifying post undergraduate coursework may have those courses and cumulative GPA (unweighted) re-evaluated by the Admissions Committee.
  • Completed the prerequisite coursework listed below from an accredited institution with grades of C or higher in each course.
    • Earned six semester credit hours of either physics, kinesiology, exercise science, biomechanics or statistics and six semester credit hours of biological science.
    • Students not meeting the course prerequisites may be probationally admitted.
    • Probational students acknowledge that the prerequisite courses prepare stronger candidates for success but still wish to pursue the degree.
    • Probational students may be requested to take a reduced course load and meet regularly with their Academic Success Coach.

Students may be admitted through the Alternative Admissions Track Program (AATP). Students are encouraged to reach out to Admissions at Admissions@logan.edu or 636-230-1750 to discuss possible options.

Employment in the sports and exercise science field are expected to grow between 10-13% by 2032 (according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics). Graduates of this program can work in health professions, including private practice or clinical settings, on staff for college and professional sports teams, as personal trainers and coaches, as well as opportunities in research and teaching exercise science.

What are the admission requirements for this program?

No GRE is necessary. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a minimum 2.5 GPA (unweighted) in your qualifying bachelor’s degree. For formal admissions requirements, please refer to the Admissions Requirements section.

What kind of courses will I be taking?

Graduate ready to excel through evidence-based courses such as anatomy of human motion, biomechanics, nutrition and physical performance, applied physiology and rehabilitation.

What can I do with this degree if I am not a Doctor of Chiropractic?

With this program , you are able to customize your degree based on your career goals by choosing your electives. These electives will guide the certifications you choose to sit for.

How does the internship portion of this degree work?

As a part of the MS-SSR degree, students in the graduate program are required to complete an internship at a site of their choosing. Once approved by the Program Director, students work in a clinical setting with health professionals for a total of 180 hours over a 15-week time frame.

The internship aspect of Logan’s MS-SSR degree program gives students an opportunity to work in a clinical setting, such as sports medicine departments, strength and conditioning gyms, and cardiac rehabilitation in hospital settings. The internship allows students to apply what they have learned in the online courses into real world settings, working with clients, athletes and patients.

If I am a Doctor of Chiropractic, what certifications can I sit for with this degree?

Upon completing the sports and emergency care hands-on lab and graduating, you will be eligible to test for certification as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) from the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (ACBSP).
