Today is #Juneteenth, which marks the freedom of enslaved Black people in the US. In 2021, President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, which commemorates June 19, 1865, when Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and read a federal order abolishing the institution of slavery in the state. Logan University and all Logan Health Centers will be closed tomorrow in honor of Juneteenth.

Logan United, a student organization focused on creating a safe space for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC students and educating the community on the importance of inclusive healthcare practices, is hosting the first ever PRIDE 5k fundraising event in honor of #PrideMonth!

The 5k and one mile walk are open to the public and will take place on Logan's campus on June 11. The organization is fundraising to continue providing support, resources and educational opportunities for the Logan community. In addition, the group is donating half of the money they raise to St. Louis Queer Support Hotline (SQSH) – a vital resource in the St. Louis LGBTQIA community. A few weeks ago, Logan's MS-AND students did a service project at @earthdancefarms in Ferguson, MO, a non-profit organization that uses organic farming to teach St. Louis area students about agriculture and good nutrition.

This volunteer project focused on preparing the fields for planting, as well as planting sweet peppers and tomatoes in the garden.

Earlier this year, Andrea “Jill” Pratte, DHPE ('22), MS, LAT, ATC, assistant professor for Logan’s Master’s of Sports Science and Rehabilitation program and recent graduate of the Doctorate of Health Professions Education program, was inducted into the @centralmethodist Athletics Hairston Hall of Fame. Prior to Logan, Jill served for 20 years as the clinical education coordinator as well as an associate professor in the Athletic Training Education program at CMU. During that time, she was a recipient of the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award along with being honored as Professor of Athletic Training Emerita. She was the primary athletic trainer for the @cmueagles soccer, men's basketball, and baseball programs during her time at CMU and was selected as the 2012 Athletic Trainer of the Year by the NAIA-Athletic Trainers Association. Congratulations, Dr. Pratte!
