Dr. Claret Onukogu Prepares Students for Success in Health Informatics

Logan University is proud to offer in-person and online programs led by expert faculty members who bring real-world experience, academic excellence and a passion for student success. In Logan’s online Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) program, Claret Onukogu, PhD, DBA, MBA, combines her knowledge and insights to help prepare the next generation of health informatics leaders.

Now residing in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Onukogu earned a bachelor’s degree in health sciences, specializing in public health, from Georgia Southern University, formerly Armstrong Atlantic State University. With a passion for healthcare and technology, she went on to complete both a PhD and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from Walden University, as well as an MBA from South University—all while working full-time.

“The use of technology in healthcare is fascinating to me,” Dr. Onukogu said. “I’m really interested in the flow of information and ease of operability with generated data.”

In 2021, Dr. Onukogu joined Logan‘s MSHI program as an adjunct faculty member. She currently teaches courses in information systems management, project management, consumer health informatics and business and finance for health informatics professionals.

In addition to her role at Logan, Dr. Onukogu serves as a full-time faculty member and public health coordinator in the University of Tennessee System (UT), teaching courses such as epidemiology, public health practices, and principles and concepts in personal health. She also assists and facilitates internships at UT.

Dr. Onukogu balances both positions thanks to her passion for education and drive to improve healthcare through data and technology.

“Logan’s MSHI students acquire high-quality knowledge of data systems that enhance operational efficiency and patient care,” she said. “The program is a great fit for anyone interested in the acquisition, analysis, protection and management of traditional and digital patient health information.”

Dr. Onukogu recommends the program to healthcare professionals seeking to expand their knowledge and impact in the growing field of health informatics.
