Students in Logan University’s Master of Science in Chiropractic Pediatrics (MSCP) program gathered on campus in April for the in-person PedTRA I and II sessions.
“Last year, I was very nervous about coming, but the interactions were so great and provided me with the utmost confidence in my skills,” said Rhiannon West, DC, M.Sc., L.R.C.C., an international student from the United Kingdom. “I really enjoy these in-person meetings because you can actually practice the techniques you’re learning and not just watch videos,” added fellow UK student Milla Karvinen, DC.
The MSCP program, the first pediatrics master’s degree for chiropractors in North America, is primarily online. In-person PedTRA sessions are held twice throughout the course of the program, allowing students to apply their pediatric knowledge through hands-on practice and receive individualized instructions from program faculty.
“There wasn’t anything like this before in North America, so being part of the program is such an amazing opportunity,” said Canadian student Courtney Chupa, DC. “These PedTRA sessions provide so much information and are incredibly organized.”
PedTRA I covers spinal and cranial adjusting techniques while PedTRA II focuses on extremity manual therapy techniques and rehab exercises.
“The whole experience is really wonderful,” said Jillian Sherry, DC, MSACN, MA, a student from Poughkeepsie, New York. “The instructors are so lovely and knowledgeable, and you can tell they’re great at what they do.”
The three-day event offers more than just an educational experience, program faculty members explain – it’s an opportunity to meet classmates and build a sense of camaraderie and community.
“Meeting in person creates a sense of community that’s hard to replicate online,” said MSCP instructor and PedTRA Coordinator Allison Harvey, DC. “It fosters mentorship, connection and a collaborative spirit that lasts well beyond the weekend. My favorite part is witnessing those ‘lightbulb moments’ when everything clicks for a student during practical sessions.”
Licensed Doctors of Chiropractic (DC), international Chiropractors with a DC-equivalent degree, and students with advanced standing in any DC program are eligible to enroll.
