When Crystal Dougherty began looking for a bachelor’s degree program, she wanted something flexible, affordable and directly connected to her career goals in healthcare. That search led her to Logan University’s Bachelor of Science in Human Biology (BSHB) program.
“I discovered Logan’s BSHB program while researching flexible bachelor’s degree options,” said Crystal. “Logan stood out because of its health sciences focus, fully online format, accelerated eight-week courses, affordable tuition, and strong reputation.”
She enrolled in August 2023 and graduated in August 2025. Throughout the program, she balanced the demands of school, full-time work as a licensed surgical assistant, and family responsibilities. While it wasn’t always easy, she credits Logan with helping her grow in resilience, time management and confidence.
“The faculty was knowledgeable and supportive, the coursework was well-structured, and everything I studied felt relevant to my goals in healthcare,” she said. “I especially enjoyed the science-based classes that tied directly into patient care as well as the flexibility of the online format.”
That foundation prepared Crystal for her next step: acceptance into the Nadine and Tom Craddick Physician Assistant Studies Program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Midland, Texas.
“The BSHB program gave me a strong academic foundation in health sciences, sharpened my critical thinking skills, and built my confidence for graduate-level coursework,” said Crystal. “It wasn’t just a stepping stone—it was truly the foundation that gave me the confidence to move forward.”
Logan’s online experience also stood out as a positive. Courses were interactive, professors were approachable and responsive, and even in a virtual setting, there were opportunities to connect with classmates.
“My ultimate goal is to become a Physician Assistant and serve rural communities in West Texas,” they said. “Logan’s BSHB program was exactly what I needed to get there.”
