Mike Marinus, DC, MSCPAEDS, instructor for Logan University’s Master of Science in Chiropractic Pediatrics (MSCP) program, never thought his career would be in pediatric chiropractic. However, he seemed destined to follow in the footsteps of his father, who provided chiropractic care to infants in South Africa.
“My interest in this field was a slow burn, but once I got into it, I was hooked, and there was no turning back,” he said.
After earning his Master of Health Sciences in Chiropractic from University of Johannesburg in South Africa, he completed his master’s degree in paediatric musculoskeletal health in 2019 from Bournemouth University. In 2021, Dr. Marinus was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Chiropractors.
Now based in Southampton, England, he splits his time between clinical practice and his role at Logan. Much of his time remains dedicated to academia, a passion that has led him to become the chairman of the Royal College of Chiropractic for Pregnancy and Paediatrics.
At Logan, Dr. Marinus teaches Fundamentals of Chiropractic Pediatrics and Advanced Pediatric Practice. He interacts with students as they enter the program, helping them find their footing in pediatric chiropractic and then guiding them as they get ready to graduate.
“The best part of the courses I teach at Logan is seeing the students evolve from initial intent and curiosity into confident and capable pediatric practitioners,” said Dr. Marinus. “This makes my role incredibly rewarding.”
Dr. Marinus is also a founding member of the Paediatric Association of South Africa and remains in touch with his South African roots by teaching certifications in pediatric chiropractic and offering international seminars.
He emphasizes that advanced training and education are crucial to the pediatric field and clinicians should never stop learning.
“Logan’s MSCP is unique due to the incredible caliber of the faculty – many of my current colleagues are experts that I looked up to as I entered this field, and the amount of expertise collectively in this program is extensive,” he said. “Students get a well-rounded, extremely hands-on experience that will prepare them to make a positive impact in pediatric chiropractic.”
