She was conscientious about being fair and ensuring due process for the student. She stayed late several nights to help provide clear communication to the student, which included how she could appeal. The student case was handled with dignity and respect, in large part, thanks to Jess’ involvement. This special practice may not seem like much, but it is a difference maker when students take their boards and have been put through similar experiences. In Dr. Wibbenmeyer’s Clinical IV class, she puts together weekly simulated patient scenarios so that students have first hand experiences on evaluation and diagnosis with people other than their fellow classmates. She spends time writing the cases and training the simulated patients to ensure students have meaningful experiences week in and week out. In terms of learning about creatine, and other supplements in athletics, there is a basic knowledge that many people have but his students were able to dive deeper into actual ways to calculate what someone should be taking pre and post activity, as well as debunk previously accepted considerations for nutrition in athletics. He guided students through projects were they were to find social media posts from influencers that may have false or misleading information and bring evidence to debunk them, which is a powerful tool in the arsenal of combatting misinformation that reaches more of the masses.
