Nicole Woods Blends Expertise in Nursing and Health Informatics to Prepare Students for Engaging Careers

With more than 20 years of experience in healthcare, including 18 years as a registered nurse in various settings, Nicole Woods, MSN, RN, NI-BC has amassed a wide range of skills and knowledge.

Nicole obtained a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing informatics from Western Governors University. While there, she received the Capstone Excellence Award for her work in telehealth programs. She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree at Capella University, focusing on the intersection of health informatics and population health.

“My goal is to continue to drive impactful changes in healthcare delivery and outcomes,” she said. “With my experience in inpatient and outpatient care, case management and quality improvement along with my certification in Epic clinical informatics and board certification in nursing informatics, I think I am well-positioned.”

Nicole is also an adjunct professor at Logan University, teaching courses in the Master of Science in Health Informatics (MS-HI) program.

“I was drawn to teaching for this program due to its emphasis on practical health informatics,” she said. “In addition, the faculty team for this program brings a diverse set of skills and backgrounds as well as extensive industry experience and knowledge.”

She currently teaches the “Introduction to Health Informatics and Technology” and the “End User Information Systems” courses for the program.

“I hope to share my knowledge with students and offer practical insights and real-world examples to enhance their learning and application of the concepts,” said Nicole.

She adds that graduates of Logan’s MS-HI program have a robust understanding of health informatics and technology, preparing them for successful careers.

“These students are highly engaged and motivated to take advantage of all the opportunities in the thriving health informatics field,” Nicole said.
