Frequently Asked Questions About Acupuncture

Acupuncture originated in China thousands of years ago and utilizes hair-thin metal needles on specific points on the body.

What is acupuncture?

It is believed all illnesses result from an interference with the flow of energy, also known as chi. Acupuncture unblocks the chi through channels known as meridians and restores balance in the body. There are more than 300 acupuncture points on the skin to treat more than 2,000 conditions. As one of the oldest healing arts, acupuncture can be an independent therapy or work in conjunction with other health care therapies such as chiropractic.

How do chiropractic and acupuncture work together?

Chiropractic and acupuncture both emphasize a natural approach to health care and wellness by optimizing nerve function and energy balance to allow your body to maximize its health potential.

What are the risks?

All needles are sterilized and are used only once. Most people report few side effects and minimal to no pain from the needle insertion. As always, discuss your current health conditions with your intern and Doctor of Chiropractic to see if you are a good candidate for acupuncture.

What conditions can acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture can assist with a variety of health conditions and concerns including headaches, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, carpel tunnel, low back pain and more.

How long does an acupuncture treatment appointment last?

The first appointment will last approximately 60-90 minutes to complete the consultation and review of patient health history, physical examination, report of findings with treatment recommendations, and the first acupuncture treatment session. Subsequent acupuncture appointments last approximately 30 minutes.

What type of training is required?

Logan clinicians are licensed Doctors of Chiropractic and are nationally board certified in acupuncture care. We are a top chiropractic college, and our chiropractic interns have received extra training and course work and have passed the certification examination, including clean needle technique training.
