Upgrades Completed on Logan University’s Disc Golf Course

June 27, 2019 -- Logan’s 18-hole disc golf course recently received several upgrades, including a practice basket, kiosk, course signage, tee pads and a new layout, all of which help improve student life on campus and the player experience.

Logan’s Director of Sports and Activities Robert Powell worked closely with Jeff Irwin of the St. Louis Disc Golf Club, who was instrumental in providing recommendations to improve the course.

The St. Louis Disc Golf Club is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to the growth of disc golf in the St. Louis area. The club’s members are active on Logan’s disc golf course and had an interest in making it one of the top courses in the area.

“When Robert and I met, we discussed the vision for the course, where it ranked among other local courses, and how to make it one of the best in the region,” Jeff said. “Working with Logan, we’ve been able to make enhancements to the course that appeal to a wide demographic, including students, faculty and die-hard disc golfers from the community.”

The new design features two 9-hole loops, allowing players to return to their starting point half way through the round. Additional improvements, such as geographically-specific navigation signs, help facilitate the flow of the course and improve navigation for newer players, while providing valuable hole insights to more experienced players.

“The campus is absolutely breathtaking. The maintenance and facilities teams do an amazing job maintaining the grounds, which includes the course,” said Jeff. “We are thrilled that the University is willing to work with our organization and provide such an amazing course for the community. Like many of the University’s facilities, the disc golf course is top notch.”

Robert said since being installed in 2013, the course has attracted students as well as traveling disc golfers from all over the Midwest and beyond. “Wear and tear is the best indication of how much it’s used, and it’s safe to say that our course is well loved,” Robert said.

Robert also indicated that he’s been pleased with the entire project, from Jeff’s input to the feedback from the community and students alike. “We felt this was an opportunity to provide a great service to the community,” Robert said. “It’s a destination course that will now be on a lot more people’s radar.”

The 18-hole, championship-style disc golf course is open to students, faculty and the community from dawn to dusk. The orange practice basket and overhead map, just east of Beatrice B. Hagen Memorial Drive, indicate the starting point of the course.
