Logan University Partners with SIUE for Athlete Care

Under the supervision of clinicians and Doctors of Chiropractic, Logan University student interns are providing chiropractic care to student athletes at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). The chiropractic treatment is provided on the SIUE campus and offered in conjunction with SIUE’s current athletic training program.

David Strickfaden, assistant athletic director for student welfare at SIUE, said the benefit of the partnership is that it provides an opportunity to have chiropractic as an adjunct to SIUE’s sports medicine department as another option of taking care of student-athletes.

"It’s a clinical experience much like a residency internship," he said. "They’re getting the opportunity to work in the sports medicine side while SIUE is getting the benefit of the chiropractic care."

Logan interns will work with the student-athletes twice a week, evaluating and providing recommendations for care. After initial appointments, SIUE’s athletic trainer will decide how to incorporate treatment into the training process for continued implementation.

David Parish, DC, MS, CSCS, DACBSP, Director of Logan’s Master of Sports Science and Rehabilitation program and Director of the Human Performance Center, said this is just another great step in exposing Logan interns to integrated care. "It also allows for SIUE athletes to experience chiropractic and for the athletic trainers to see what it can do for their athletes," he said.
