Aleida Gordon, EdD, MBA, MPH, RDN
I am a Registered Dietitian residing in the State of California. I worked in the dietetics/field for over 20 years in a variety of clinical and community settings. I started my career in the dietetics field working in the WIC Program being was part of the breastfeeding task force providing education to health professionals on the benefits of breastfeeding. I also found it rewarding to work closely with mothers who were facing breastfeeding challenges.
After a few years, I worked for the local Head Start Program which I really enjoyed because I was able to provide nutrition education to parents, teachers and the children. I oversaw the nutrition department and eight nutrition assistants. During this time, I was privileged to be part of the team that developed and implemented a state Head Start conference.
The Elderly Nutrition Program was my next stop which was an enjoyment providing services to the aging population. In this position, I dealt mainly with the nutrition contractors who were responsible for providing the lunch meal to the seniors at the senior center or at their homes. Menu planning, development of the request for proposal, contract negotiations, orientation and monitoring of the contract were a few of my duties.
While at this position, I started mentoring dietetic interns and was offered the opportunity to teach at a local university since I was already working at a community college. Teaching is enjoyable to me because I get to meet students from all over the world. As an instructor the students learn nutrition and at the same time I learn about their culture, challenges and barriers they face so that I can include resources so that they can be successful.
I completed a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan; Master in Public Health in Health Education and Promotion/Nutrition at Loma Linda University; Master in Business Administration from University of Redlands and Doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Adult Education at Capella University.
My husband and I have been married for over 30 years and we have two grown children, two granddaughters and two adorable pit bulls, Nala and Simba. My hobbies are scrapbooking, reading and travelling. Lastly, I am bilingual (Spanish and English) which usually takes my clients by surprise.
