Stephen Nickell, EdD, LAT, ATC
Stephen Nickell, EdD, LAT, ATC is Logan’s Sports and Exercise Science Department Chair and Master’s in Athletic Training Program Director. Prior to Logan, Dr. Nickell served as the athletic training program director at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and as the program director of athletic training and chair of sports science for Urbana University in Urbana, Ohio. Earlier in his career, he was a clinical athletic trainer for a school district in his home state of Ohio.
Dr. Nickell is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a site visitor for the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Ohio University in 1999, his master’s degree from Rider University in New Jersey in 2001 and his Doctorate of Education at the University of Missouri in 2017.
William Dill, EdD, LAT, ATC, CSCS
Assistant Professor, Clinical Education Coordinator
Dr. William Dill joined Logan in 2021 as an assistant professor and clinical education coordinator for the Master’s in Athletic Training program. In this role, Dr. Dill is responsible for teaching courses in the didactic portion of the program, ensuring students meet clinical rotation expectations, coordinating with preceptors to meet the needs of the program, students and their facilities, as well as mentoring students in the Master’s in Athletic Training (MAT) program to be leaders in their field.
Prior to Logan, Dr. Dill worked in many positions including assistant professor and clinical education coordinator for the Department of Athletic Training at Lindenwood University. Before working in academia, Dr. Dill was an athletic trainer in various settings, including the St. Louis Athletic Training Services, Lindenwood University-Belleville, Memorial Hospital, Monroe Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine, U.S Youth Soccer Region II Olympic Development Program, Columbus Crew – MLS, Ohio University and McKendree University. He has also served as an NFL ATC concussion/injury spotter for the St. Louis NFL market.
Dr. Dill earned his Doctor of Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Andragogy from Lindenwood University, Master of Science in Recreation and Sports Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training from Ohio University and his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training with a minor in Health Education from McKendree College.
Among some of Dr. Dill’s accolades are the 2018 Alvin M. Francis Award in Educational Leadership and the 2015 NAIA Athletic Trainer of the Year award.
Jessica Russell, DAT, MS, ATC, CSCS
Dr. Jessica Russell is an instructor at Logan and joined the team in 2021. Dr. Russell instructs the Introduction to Athletic Training course under the Master of Athletic Training curriculum and serves as the lab instructor for modalities for the College of Chiropractic.
Prior to Logan, Dr. Russell worked as an associate athletic trainer for Saint Joseph’s University and as head athletic trainer at Essexville-Garber High School in Bay City, Michigan.
Dr. Russell earned her Doctor of Athletic Training from Temple University, Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from Saint Joseph’s University and her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine from Central Michigan University.
Among many other certifications, Dr. Russell is a National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) Certified Athletic Trainer and a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
