We are proud to join with the National Chiropractic Mutual Insurance Company in presenting three important and timely topics: Patient Communication and Domestic Abuse, Documentation, and Ethics in the Chiropractic Practice. By attending this seminar NCMIC policyholders will qualify for a 5% premium discount upon their annual renewal of their malpractice policy with NCMIC.  The seminar is presented by Anna Allen, MSN, RN, CLNC, and Stephen M. Savoie, DC, FACO. Ms. Allen’s presentation Patient Communication and Domestic Abuse includes the history of doctor/patient relationships, human rights and patient autonomy, as well as listening skills, patient questionnaires, and ways to communicate. In her discussion of spousal/domestic abuse Ms. Allen discusses the role of the chiropractor, issues of confidentiality, how to recognize the abused victim, and essentials of the patient record. She also describes the warning flags and understanding the legal process. Dr. Savoie’s two presentations are Documentation and Ethics in the Chiropractic Practice. In his presentation on documentation Dr. Savoie discusses the warning signs of poor documentation and then provides information on the intake form and case history, examination, care plan and daily notes. His presentation on ethics includes definitions, duties of the patient, values, and up-coding and down-coding. Anna K. Allen MSN, RN, CLNC received her BSN in nursing from Grandview College and her master’s degree in nursing education and administration from Drake University. She has conceived, planned and presented workshops nationally on health care fraud and care of chronically ill patients. She is an adjunct professor for postgraduate education at National University of Health Sciences and an adjunct assistant professor for the postgraduate and continuing education faculty of the New York College of Chiropractic. Stephen M. Savoie, DC, FACO is a 1978 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic and he has completed postgraduate programs in sports chiropractic and chiropractic orthopedics. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedics and a Fellow of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists. He brings 25 years of experience presenting continuing education and postgraduate courses throughout the United States on diagnosis, risk management, record keeping, and orthopedics. He practices in Clermont, Florida.
