Happy Holidays from Logan University!

Gifts of the Season from Logan University

Best wishes and happy holidays from everyone at Logan University!

Gift of Education

Donna Mannello, DC, Professor & Gene Spilker DC, Director of the Student Health Center

Dr. Mannello teaches courses in the Doctor of Chiropractic curriculum to first and second year students. During the first year, DC students spend 60% of their time in foundational science courses. In the second year, 90% of their time is dedicated to clinical skills courses. The hands-on experience Dr. Mannello and her colleagues provide the students in the first two years is critical to their transition to the clinics.

Dr. Spilker and his team welcome students to the first phase of the clinic experience during the third year. Although the students have been working with simulated patients for the past two years, they are now treating fellow students and their families in the Student Health Center and in just a few short months, they will treat patients in the outpatient health centers.

Gift of Financial Security

Andrea Weise, Payroll and Accounting Specialist & Kelley Humphries, DC, MS, LP, ICCSP, Fellow in the Human Performance Center.

As one of the members of the accounting team, Andrea supports Logan’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and pledge to increase transparency. Thanks to conservative planning and management of University funds, Logan University is able to provide students unique clinical offerings at diverse community clinics.

Dr. Humphries works at Logan’s clinic at Paraquad, a nonprofit organization that provides disabled individuals with resources and opportunity to live more independently. Logan interns under the direction of Dr. Humphries, provide chiropractic care in an integrated setting that includes physical and occupational therapists, working together to promote physical independence and well-being.

Gift of New Beginnings

Ronald Grant, DC, Board of Trustee Member & Natacha Douglas, MBA, Executive Director of Admissions

Dr. Grant has served Logan University as a faculty member, taught postgraduate courses, was chief of staff of the health centers and is now a Board of Trustee Member, where he represents the faculty. Dr. Grant is also on the Board’s Academic and Enrollment Management committee.

Logan University welcomed Natacha in October 2016 to the Office of Admissions. Natacha brings a lot of fresh ideas in recruiting Doctor of Chiropractic students and online students for the College of Health Sciences.

Gift of Opportunities

Dan Ault, DC, Resident in the Department of Radiology & Matthew Pennell, DC, MS Clinician and Instructor

Both Drs. Ault and Pennell are recent graduates of Logan’s Doctor of Chiropractic program who are pursing unique opportunities as new alumni. Dr. Ault, a 2015 graduate, was accepted to the Department of Radiology’s Diagnostic Imaging Residency program in April 2016. Upon successful completion of the program, Dr. Ault will be eligible to sit for the Diplomate by the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology (DACBR).

Dr. Pennell, a 2015 graduate, recently began working at CHIPS with Dr. Bo Andel and Logan interns. CHIPS is a private funded integrated health center offering a variety of health care services to the underserved and uninsured of St. Louis. Logan clinicians and interns provide chiropractic care to patients with diverse health needs and backgrounds.

Gift of Technology

Meadow Campbell, PhD, Instructor and Lab Assistant & Rick DeCaro, Director of Information Technology Services

This past trimester, Dr. Campbell taught Anatomy and Histology within the Doctor of Chiropractic program. Next trimester, she will also be teaching undergraduate courses. Dr. Campbell is able to enhance her teaching with the latest technology both online and in the physical classroom.

Rick is part of Logan’s information and academic technology team. Today’s technology needs are increasing and the information and academic technology team ensure faculty, staff and students have access to the latest tools such as online course portals, SMART boards, Apple TVs and more.

Gift of Leadership

Cheryl Houston, PhD, Director of Health Professions Education and General Education & Christopher Schriver, Trimester 8 Student, Logan Student Government Member and Student Ambassador

Dr. Houston has covered a lot of ground in her health sciences career in education, but her current position at Logan is the one that bonds most of her interests and experiences. Dr. Houston’s vision for the Doctorate in Health Professions Education is clear about the impact on the current health care industry this innovative doctorate program will have.

Chris is a Trimester 8 student from Bloomer, Wisconsin. The Doctor of Chiropractic program is demanding enough for students, however Chris also serves. Chris has been on the Logan Student Government for the past two trimesters and was also recently selected as a Student Ambassador to represent Logan at key events and to potential students.
