Logan College of Chiropractic/University Programs welcomed more than 150 new students to its campus this May. The number includes new Doctor of Chiropractic Degree, Master of Science Degree and undergraduate students enrolled in Logan’s Accelerated Science Program (ASP). For Logan’s flagship program, the Doctor of Chiropractic Degree, it was the largest May class since 2007, including an increase of approximately 15 percent from May 2012. Read More >

On Thursday, May 30, 2013, from 9:15 to 11 a.m., Logan’s Department of Radiology will host the 6th Annual Joseph W. Howe Oration in Diagnostic Imaging. The Oration is designed to honor Dr. Howe’s extensive contributions to and achievements in the education, research and practice of chiropractic radiology. Katharine Conable Attends International College of Applied Kinesiology

Katharine Conable, MApS, DC, associate professor in Logan’s Chiropractic Science Division, just returned from a meeting of the International College of Applied Kinesiology in Cairnes, Australia, where members represented 16 countries and many professions – DC, DO, MD, dentists and more. Dr. Conable chaired a meeting of the International Board of Examiners of Applied Kinesiology, gave Diplomate exams to two Russian MDs, two Korean MDs and an Australian DC. She also attended a meeting of the International Educational Council, the governing body for Certified Teachers of AK, as well as the International Council, the governing body of ICAK internationally. In addition, she presented a paper entitled “Tips, Tricks and Lost Technology.” She also received the 2013 International George Goodheart Award for service to ICAK. |

Andrew Sanders, a current Doctor of Chiropractic/Master of Science in Nutrition and Human Performance student at Logan College of Chiropractic/University Programs, presented his research entitled “Modeling Exercise Effects on Cardiovascular Fitness” with his thesis advisor, Dr. Robert Davidson, at the 2013 Experimental Biology meeting (April 20-24) in Boston, Mass. Experimental Biology is an annual meeting comprised of approximately 14,000 scientists and exhibitors representing fields of study include anatomy, physiology, pathology, biochemistry, nutrition and pharmacology. |

Logan College of Chiropractic/University Programs held a special ceremony on its campus February 27 to honor students who earned placement on the Dean’s List for three or six consecutive trimesters, recipients of institutional scholarships, and students who have completed requirements for their Bachelor of Science degree in either Human Biology or Life Science. Fifteen students were recognized for making the Dean’s List over three consecutive trimesters, and eight students were honored for achieving this milestone over six consecutive trimesters. Twenty-five students received merit scholarships. In addition, 24 major scholarships were presented. Logan’s former Interim President and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Carl W. Saubert IV, PhD, conferred undergraduate degrees on 157 students. Read More >

Logan’s Dr. Katherine Conable Administers ICAK Diplomate Examination

Dr. Katharine Conable, associate professor in Logan’s Chiropractic Science Division, and two other members of the International College of Applied Kinesiology's International Board of Examiners traveled to Seoul, Korea in early January to administer the ICAK Diplomate examination. Eight MDs and Oriental Medical Doctors took the rigorous two-day examination. Those completing the examination will next go through a process to become Certified Teachers of Applied Kinesiology, joining two other teachers in Korea. The Korean Chapter of ICAK is a large and active group consisting equally of medical doctors and oriental medical doctors practicing in a broad variety of specialties. Their main teachers have been Dr. Seung Lee and Dr. Paul Youn, both of whom are MD/DC trained. The Korean chapter will be hosting the International Annual Meeting of ICAK in 2015.

Logan College of Chiropractic/University Programs held its 169th commencement for the degree of Doctor of Chiropractic on Saturday, December 22, 2012, in the William D. Purser, DC Center on the Logan campus in Chesterfield, Mo., a western suburb of St. Louis. The ceremony, which included the academic hooding of each graduate, honored 96 students with the conferral of the Doctor of Chiropractic degree by Logan President George A. Goodman, DC, FICC. Twenty students received their Master of Science Degree in Sports Science and Rehabilitation, and four students received their Master of Science Degree in Nutrition and Human Performance degrees from Logan University Programs. The commencement speaker was Dr. Louis Sportelli, president of NCMIC, the nation’s largest provider of chiropractic malpractice insurance. Founded at Cornell University in 1886, Sigma Xi is the international honor society for research scientists and engineers. As a multidisciplinary society, Sigma Xi supports a wide spectrum of research, rewards excellence in scientific research, and encourages cooperation among scientists in all fields. As a biomedical engineer, Mozammil Hussain, PhD is also a member of this honorary research society.

Logan College of Chiropractic/University Programs has been awarded a Standard Process competitive research grant totaling $700,000. The recipient of the two-year grant is Cheryl Hawk, DC, PhD, CHES, CWP, FICC, Logan’s director of clinical research. Her research project is entitled “Chiropractic Care and a Specific Regimen of Nutritional Supplementation for Patients with Acute Ankle Sprain: a Multisite Randomized Controlled Trial.” Thirteen chiropractic schools submitted applications to Standard Process and seven were invited to submit proposals.
