Mozammil Hussain, PhD
Mozammil Hussain, PhD, received his Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from North Gujarat University, India, in 1998; Master of Engineering (Mechanical) from Panjab University, India, in 2004; Master of Science in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, in 2002; and Doctorate in Bioengineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2007. His doctoral research work at the Orthopedic Biomechanics Laboratory of Rush University Medical Center in Chicago focused on studying the initiation and progression of disc degeneration in the cervical spine. He has published original research articles in various peer-reviewed journals including Spine, The Spine Journal, and Medical Engineering & Physics, and also serves as a peer reviewer. He is also an active member of several national and international research societies. Using advanced computational technologies and fundamental bioengineering principles, his research primarily involves understanding the inter-vertebral disc mechanobiology to repair the discs’ health state in various musculoskeletal spinal diseases/injuries, by studying the biomechanical and biochemical remodeling changes in spinal tissues from a healthy spine to a diseased/injured one, and to one with interventions.
