Points to Consider:

  • Financial aid is usually calculated for two trimesters, which is also one academic year or one loan period.
  • Students complete three applications in this process; the federal application (FAFSA), the Logan financial aid application and the electronic Direct loan application (MPN).
  • The Doctor of Chiropractic program is a 10-trimester program; thus, you will apply for financial aid five times – once before starting trimester one and in trimesters two, four, six and eight.
  • Cost of attendance is designed to meet the student’s direct expenses (tuition, fees, and books) and a reasonable portion of the student’s living expenses. Credit card debt, car payments and other discretionary expenses are not related to educational expenses, thus are not included in the student’s cost of attendance.
  • Per the Department of Education, living expenses of additional family members are not considered in the cost of attendance. Family members are taken into consideration when determining the family contribution through information provided on the FAFSA application.
  • Adjustments may be made per family for exceptional expenses such as unusually high medical expenses, dependent child care expenses, or additional expenses paid by handicapped students for educational needs. Adequate documentation is required.
  • After the financial aid file is complete, students will receive an award letter. Loans cannot be processed until the award letters are returned to the financial aid office and the electronic MPN is completed.

Disbursement of Financial Aid Funds:

  • Students must be fully accepted by the Office of Admissions and have completed all financial aid requirements (including Entrance Counseling) before any financial aid funds are disbursed.
  • Perkins Loans are disbursed approximately the fourth week of the trimester

Student Classification & Aid Eligibility

  • Effective July 1, 2000, students convicted for possession or sale of a controlled substance may be suspended from Title IV eligibility. Call the Dept. of Education at (800) 433-3243 or go to the www.fafsa.ed.gov for more information.

Possible Aid Programs

  • Stafford Loan - up to full $16,500 per trimester in unsubsidized loans
  • GradPlus Loan - Varies (credit based/amount based on cost of attendance minus Stafford Loans)
  • Alternative Loan - varies (credit based/amount based on cost of attendance minus other aid)
