Orangetheory Fitness Coaching Inspires Chiropractic Career: Tyler Lymburner

Growing up in South Bend, Indiana, Tyler Lymburner initially set his sights on becoming a physical therapist (PT). To reach this goal, he attended and graduated from Trine University in Indiana in 2013 with a degree in Exercise Science.

He decided not to attend PT school right away, so he began working as a coach at the Granger Orangetheory Fitness and opened a sports performance business, T2 Sports Performance.

“We started small and rented space at a local gym and then kept expanding,” Tyler said. “We trained athletes from Notre Dame University, several local high school athletes, and general population clients who wanted to move better.”

After a few years, he sold his business and moved to Indianapolis. He continued his role as a coach at Orangetheory, where he worked closely with members to answer questions and help guide them on their fitness journeys. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Tyler began to ponder what he wanted to achieve next.

“I discovered I love solving problems,” he said. “I also understood that a lot of people are in pain, and I wanted to help them get better. The Orangetheory members inspired me to become a chiropractor so I could better help people.”

Tyler then started meeting with various chiropractors in his area, received adjustments, and asked about their business models.

“I realized all the chiropractors I met who were aligned with my thinking attended Logan University, so I figured that was a great place for me,” said Tyler. “I loved their entrepreneurial spirit and the fact that they look at humans as a whole—not a shoulder or a hip, but as a whole person—and they were open to many ideas.”

In May 2021, Tyler moved to St. Louis to attend Logan and immediately knew it was a great fit.

“The campus is incredible, and the staff and faculty are so supportive,” he said. “Also, academically, Logan has amazing electives, and they also prepare students really well for Board exams.”

Tyler has taken advantage of the tutoring and mentoring services on campus as well. Currently a trimester 9 student, he is now a tutor himself.

“The mentorship at Logan is incredible,” Tyler said. “Students are so supportive, and those in their upper trimesters are happy to help the lower trimester students. It’s a pretty special place.”

Despite his busy schedule as a student, Tyler has continued working at Orangetheory since he arrived in Chesterfield.

“Logan is a small, close-knit community, and so is Orangetheory,” he said. “They are both great environments. I can learn a lot from members and share some of my knowledge on keeping them healthy and moving. It’s great being around people who want to improve their lives.”

During his tenth and final trimester, Tyler will be completing his preceptorship closer to home at Indy Muscle and Joint Clinic in Fishers, Indiana. He is on track to graduate in August 2024 and plans on practicing in Indianapolis. He also plans to continue coaching at the Carmel, Indiana location of Orangetheory.
