Insurance Compliance and Your Practice Profile
Instructor:   John Davila, DC

We are excited to welcome Dr. John Davila to our campus this weekend to present Insurance Compliance and Your Practice Profile. Dr. Davila is a well-known speaker and compliance expert and this weekend he gives us a unique overview of compliance and how it relates to your chiropractic practice. This presentation is broken up into two 2-hour sections and two 4-hour sections. Each of these sections is designed to be self-contained but integrated into a cohesive whole so that you can use this information in your practice right away. Dr. Davila begins with How to Implement an Insurance Compliance Program into a Chiropractic Practice. With Medicare on the verge of requiring each office that submits claims to have and operate under a compliance manual, the time to get started is now. In 2012 the Federal Government mandated that Medicare Provider4s have a Compliance manual. With these new rules about to take effect in the near future Dr. Davila will show us how to create a practice-friendly set of policies in order to be compliant and profitable. He then presents How to Create Functional Documentation in Order to Prove Medical Necessity. When you review Medicare’s policy on medical necessity, you can’t help but realize they require a certain level  of “function” to be included in our notes. In this section Dr. Davila will review policy and how including a patient’s loss of measurable function will produce notes that are bullet-proof, will show medical necessity, and help you provide a starting point for active rehab and proper case management. Dr. Davila’s first 4-hour section is titled When Philosophy and Medical Necessity Collide – How to Reduce the Risk of Audits without Losing Your Philosophy. In this section he discusses: What is medical necessity? What is an insurance profile? How a claim is produced (how the info goes from patient’s wallet to the insurance company). What is the first thing you need to do before you take notes? What is a “cash practice”? Contractual obligations and medical necessity as it relates to the 33 chiropractic principles. And much, much more. Dr. Davila wraps up this excellent information-packed seminar with Creating Stronger Patients: Implementing Passive Therapies and Active Rehab to Your Practice Profile. This section covers how proper case creation will result in the proper utilization of passive therapies and active rehab. This process reduces problems that are caused by the use of continual passive therapy and its effect on the possibility of audits. This seminar is taught by John Davila, D.C. Dr. Davila is a 1994 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He is President and CEO of Custom ChiroSolutions, Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina. He is a Board Member of South Carolina Technical Advisory Radiation Control Council, and a Board Member of the Council on Chiropractic Practice. Dr. Davila has received a number of professional awards and distinctions including: The President’s Cup Award from the South Carolina Chiropractic Association, Distinguished Service Award, and Chiropractor of the Year 2000-2001, 2001-2002, and 2002-2003. He is a sought after lecturer on compliance and has written numerous articles on the subject. It’s a real pleasure to have Dr. Davila on campus this weekend. Please join him for this outstanding presentation.
